We stayed in this little gem of a rural B&B in late summer 2009, and will be returning. The welcome extended by Juliana and Paul Uhart was truly exceptional – reflected not just in the spotless, white rooms (traditional in style but with all modern comforts, including supremely comfortable beds) and the delicious breakfasts, but also the geniality of Paul and Juliana. Paul shares his enthusiasm for the vine and offers glasses of his own award-winning wine (this is deepest wine country), while Juliana will tell you all you need to know about local markets, churches worth visiting in the vicinity and the best places to eat (she also teaches drawing and painting to guests and others). There’s a great sense of tranquillity about their rural abode, and there’s a pool and a separate guests’ kitchenette. Bikes can be hired to explore the beautiful, largely car-free countryside. The nearby hamlet has a couple of rudimentary shops and restaurants, further afield are the gorgeous, unspoiled Bastide towns. All in all, this place is a real find.

We were referred to Chateau Lavanau by another B&B that had a booking dilemma, which actually turned out to be a good thing. I wish we had more time there, as Juliana & Paul were great hosts and very charming people. There home is a nice country farmhouse, very clean and nice accommodations. I want to thank them for having such a beautiful lit up sign that allowed us to find our way home in the deepest, darkest night, after a lovely dinner at Chater Winery. Without it, we might st...
