We feel very lucky to have discovered La Millasserie and wanted to share our experiences with other travellers who might be contemplating a visit to this beautiful corner of France. Firstly the location is superb, not only the Perigord region but also the actual situation of the Guesthouse itself, nestled in quiet countryside and woodland. The variety of both natural and man-made attractions in the vicinity include medieval ‘Bastide’ towns, romantic and historic castles, some excellent restaurants and markets all situated in beautiful bucolic countryside. We were surprised by the wide range of things to do and see (and eat!) and look forward to future forays into this region as we have only experienced a small part of what it has to offer. What has made our two visits most memorable however is the guesthouse itself which has been lovingly and meticulously restored by the owners into a truly comfortable and welcoming establishment, including landscaped grounds and a lovely pool and terrace. The hosts have clearly considered the needs of their guests and are efficiently attentive, but never obtrusive or overbearing. At La Millasserie we experienced levels of privacy and relaxation not encountered at other establishments we have stayed in. As well as the hosts, this is in part due to the nature of the guest accommodation itself whereby each of the large, well appointed rooms has its own front door onto the beautiful courtyard. (No tiptoeing through the house after returning from dinner…) Also each room has a private terrace suitable for breakfast or evening drinks. These are not overlooked and in fact we were surprised to find that the room next to ours was occupied such was the degree of quiet and privacy. One of the owners is French and the other is American. This is a perfect partnership that benefits from the sensibilities of each culture – for example, on the one hand the room is furnished with beautiful French antiques and on the other the bed is of the fabulously comfortable king-sized American variety. Equally the bathrooms with their rain showers and heated towels are roomy and spotless. We also liked the fact that we could eat breakfast in our room - not balanced on our knees, but at a proper table and chairs. The hosts are experts on the region and can give a wide range of advice about what it has to offer – particularly in relation to what to see and eat. (We were grateful that on one occasion rather than produce a complicated map, they drove to the restaurant and we followed in our car, making our evening as stress free and enjoyable as possible.) The breakfasts at the Guesthouse are also a wonderful start to the day and include traditional pastries, fruit, yoghurts and coffee. La Millasserie is now our favourite place to stay in France and we are sure to return soon.

La Millasserie was the perfect base from which to explore the Dordogne and so my stay was a study in relaxation, punctuated by occasional reminders of the amazing landscape, architecture and nature that the Dordogne offers. La Millasserie offers a welcome isolation and its friendly and conversational hosts greet with smiles and useful information. Its typical Périgourdine architecture betrays a fascinating history that its hosts are proud to share, the pool is refreshing, clean and well maintained - as are the grounds of the domaine. The room are beautifully decorated with a collection of wonderful and unique French antiques (many come from the region: I asked!) The rooms are very large and the level of comfort is each room is very high -- just that extra touch one expects in better B&Bs. Bravo and thank you for a memorable trip! I’m booking again soon!
