Manoir de la Brunie

Manoir de la Brunie, an intimate, 15th-century home made of pretty honey-tone stone, accented with white shutters, is located on the “road of the châteaux of the Valley of the Dordogne” just on the outskirts of Le Coux, a small town near the River Dordogne. This bed and breakfast is a real beauty, exuding great warmth and charm. There is a happy mood throughout, and the day we visited, the interior seemed to glow as if the sun were shining, even though it was a rainy day—an effect perhaps achieved by all the warm colors used throughout. The lounge and room, where guests eat breakfast and Table d’hôte dinners are attractively decorated with a comfortable homelike ambiance. Upstairs, the guestrooms are beautifully decorated and have especially glamorous bathrooms. I thought my favorite was Comarque, with its restful creamy tones and canopy bed, until I saw Fayrac, an exceptionally spacious, ever-so-pretty room decorated in blue toile fabric. If you are traveling with children, Castelnaud, with its adjoining children’s room, would be an ideal choice and the property has recently added a pool.
