Karen's Review Of
Château du Foulon:
Château du Foulon:
The Château du Foulon, built in 1840, is a beautiful small château, owned by Vicomte and Vicomtesse de Baritault du Carpia. The home is surrounded by a 100-acre park, complete with 25 handsome peacocks and one naughty swan. Inside, the rooms, without exception, are furnished with exquisite antiques, many dating back to the 17th century. The essence within is of a fine home, elegant, yet very comfortable, with an appealing, lived-in ambiance—photographs of beautiful children and grandchildren show that indeed a family lives here. The guestrooms, each nicely decorated with pretty wallpapers and attractive fabrics, look out over the gardens from large casement windows. In addition to the three bedrooms and one suite, there is a charming apartment, with its own little kitchen, bedroom, and living room. The apartment or spacious suite would make an excellent choice for accommodation if you plan to stay for an extended time. There are few homes in the Médoc that open their doors for bed and breakfast, so it is a pleasure to recommend the Château du Foulon. If you want to explore the glorious Médoc (which produces some of the world’s finest wines) or just enjoy an interlude in the French countryside, this lovely château makes an excellent choice.

We arrived mid-day at the Chateau and were shown our room right away. The weather was beautiful and we took a lunch picnic out on the grounds which were really nice. Our double room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. The room smelled a little moldy, which could be a problem for someone who might have an allergy to mold - my throat actually felt a little scratchy the following morning; we flung open the window to let in more fresh air when we arrived. The bath had a tub, no shower, which w...
