We arrived mid-day at the Chateau and were shown our room right away. The weather was beautiful and we took a lunch picnic out on the grounds which were really nice. Our double room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. We arrived mid-day at the Chateau and were shown our room right away. The weather was beautiful and we took a lunch picnic out on the grounds which were really nice. Our double room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. The room smelled a little moldy, which could be a problem for someone who might have an allergy to mold - my throat actually felt a little scratchy the following morning; we flung open the window to let in more fresh air when we arrived. The bath had a tub, no shower, which was a bit tricky for my husband. We spoke to another couple who were staying in the apartment which they found to be comfortable. The owner was gracious but didn’t speak or preferred not to speak any English to us - I wish I could have had a conversation with him about the property’s history, but I think my French would have been intolerable for him. It was easy to drive around Medoc from the hotel and also get to the Bordeaux airport the following morning. Gently put, the Chateau is really past prime, but for a short time one can imagine its former grandeur and enjoy the grounds with the peacocks and TWO swans - the peacocks can be a bit screechy but it’s all part of the scene! There is no real luxury here, but I am glad we stopped there for the night and the price was quite affordable.
