Le Prieure du Chateau de Biron (www.leprieurebiron.com) is the best B & B in our 30 years of travel in France. In June of this year (2011), we enjoyed five delightful nights at Le Prieure. lizabeth Vedier is the owner and she makes sure your stay is delightful. The rooms are elegantly decorated with the amenities you would expect only at a Relais Château. We have stayed at two Relais Châteaus in France in previous years, and found Le Prieure superior in room size, personal service, amenities and conveniences. My only hesitation in suggesting you list Le Prieure in your update to Charming Inns & Itineraries in France, is that I might not be able to reserve a room there once this cat-is-out-of-the-bag.

On this 6-week trip, we stayed at a mix of establishments, starting with Karen Brown’s listings, Bienvenue au Chateaus, Logis, Best Western’s and a few last minute roadside accommodations. The highlight of our trip was Le Prieure in Biron as we made it our pivotal home base in traveling in both the Dordogne and Lot regions. Since Biron is at the southern end of the Dordogne it makes traveling to the northern areas of the Lot region quiet easy. the comfort, views and breakfasts are only the beginning. Ms. Vedier speaks English, was born in France and has lived in the U.S. She has an extensive personal office library of books, maps and literature on France, all available for the asking, along with suggestions on where to drive to and what to see within a 2-hour radius. Our two teenage granddaughters were with us and Ms. Vedier quickly located a horse-riding stable when the girls expressed an interest in riding horses in the French countryside. What an experience for the girls. After 5 days, none of us wanted to leave to complete our journey in Nice.

For our next trip we are thinking of flying directly into Bordeaux, renting a car and driving directly to Biron for a week of pampering and pleasures at Le Prieure.

This was our fifth trip to France, and having stayed at many inns, hotels, auberges and b&bs, we have to say that this place tops the list. This was our fifth trip to France, and having stayed at many inns, hotels, auberges and b&bs, we have to say that this place tops the list. From the moment you approach the tiny town of Biron and get closer and closer to the huge chateau, until you open the gate of the lovely, vine-covered Prieuré, you know you\’ve arrived at a very special place. Every single thing about this inn is gorgeous, luxurious, and perfect, obviously designed by someone who understands, not only the needs of travelers, but their WANTS as well. The combination of old world feel and modern convenience is flawless. Elisabeth Vedier is a charming, caring and knowledgeable proprietess, whom we feel we can also now call a friend. She made us feel instantly at home, and made sure that we enjoyed every moment at the Prieuré as well as helping us to make the most of our days in the wonderful Perigord region. As we drove away, after six nights in this special home away from home, all we could think of is when we could return. The only reason we would hesitate to write a glowing review is because we want to keep the place a secret so we can get a reservation the next time we want to go! But we can’t be selfish, so we give Le Prieuré du Château de Biron 5 stars, diamonds, hearts, whatever the highest rating is on any survey. Well done! And thank you, Elisabeth!
