Millgate House

Karen's Review Of This Property:
Millgate House’s unassuming street frontage disguises one of Richmond’s finest Georgian homes. Faux-painted marble columns draw you through the wide hall into the drawing room packed with serendipitous heirlooms, treasures and antiques collected by Tim Culkin and Austin Lynch. Tall windows overlook the lush, secluded, garden that terraces down to the river far below. The same splendid view is enjoyed by the delightful dining room with its enviable antiques and lovely paintings. A bountiful offering of fruits heads up the breakfast menu. The two premier bedrooms, a twin and a queen, face the river. Both are very large and beautifully furnished, and have spacious bathrooms and wonderful views. The third bedroom, at the front of the house, has a king-size bed and a bathroom across the hall. A five-bedroom coach house beside the river and a two-bedroom apartment that opens up to the garden are available for three to seven day lets. You are just steps from Richmond’s cobbled market square (the Frenchgate Hotel is an excellent place to eat) and just down the road from the 11th-century Norman castle. Tours of the Yorkshire Dales and Moors and York itself give you an excuse to spend several nights to soak up the atmosphere of this remarkable house.
