Hosts Jane and Steve Epperson previously owned a country house hotel so they know what guests want. Consequently their modern Georgian-style home offers more guest facilities than many hotels: indoor heated lap pool, hot tub, sauna, gym facilities and spa treatments. Sparkling bedrooms and suites have contemporary decor accented with antiques and packed with everything to make you happy and very comfortable. They have king-sized beds, satellite television, plush carpets and curtains, stone-tiled bathrooms with huge baths, separate power showers and names like Stunning, Pleasurable, Charming and Sensational. I particularly admired Desirable in the cottage which is handicap friendly and offers a huge tub for two in the bathroom. Candlelit suppers are sometimes available. There are excellent pubs and restaurants within a few minutes’ walk or drive. Anchorage House’s location on a quiet cul-de-sac just off the A390 makes it ideal for those who want to avoid navigating narrow Cornish lanes to reach their accommodation and also means that it is handily placed for driving forays to places as near as the Eden Project (5 minutes) or the Lost Gardens of Heligan (15 minutes), and as far away as Land’s End, St. Ives, and St. Michael’s Mount (1 hour).
