Karen's Review Of This Property:
For many years the once-elegant historic center of Mazatlán was neglected and gradually became rundown. Happily, this is rapidly changing. Today you see historic buildings renovated, houses repainted, the Cathedral freshened, cafes opening, art galleries popping up, and most dramatic of all, the remarkably lovely Teatro Ángela Peralta restored to its original grandeur. With the rejuvenation of the city center, hotels and bed & breakfasts are also appearing to accommodate travelers who want to experience a bit of “old Mexico” instead of staying at huge resorts. One of the best of these is the Casa de Leyendas B&B, which opened in 2005 after a top to bottom restoration of the home of one of Mazatlán’s most honored citizens, Dr. Hector Gonzales Guevara. The B&B has the best of all worlds—it is tucked in the historic section, yet within easy walking distance to the beach. However, it is your American hosts, Sharon & Glenn Sorrie, who make a stay the Casa de Leyendas special. Their motto is “Your comfort is our number one priority” and they do indeed make that happen. The amenities are amazing for such moderately-priced rooms: a tiled swimming pool in the garden courtyard, free telephone calls to the United States, complimentary wireless internet, an honor bar where guests just leave a note for drinks, free laundry service, cooking classes, and Spanish classes taught three times a week.
