An pleasant alternative to the city hotels of Venice is the quiet and charming Gargan bed and breakfast situated in the countryside just 30 kilometers away. The Calzavara family renovated the family’s expansive 17th-century country house and opened the bed and breakfast activity, offering four sweetly and simply decorated bedrooms each with its own bathroom on the top floor plus two suites consisting of bedroom, sitting room, and bathroom. Signora Antonia, son Alessandro who looks after the farm activity, horses (his passion) and tree nursery, and his wife Nicoletta enjoy making their guests feel as “at home” as possible by having fresh flowers in the cozy, heirloom antique-filled bedrooms. The downstairs sitting and dining rooms display the family’s country antiques as well as a large fireplace and nice touches such as lace curtains and family paintings. Guests are treated to a full breakfast of home-baked cakes and exceptional four-course dinners prepared especially for guests by Signora Antonia herself, using all ingredients from the farm. The Gargan is an ideal choice in this area, being a short drive from such marvels as Padova, Venice, Treviso, Vicenza, Verona, and Palladian villas plus many smaller medieval villages.
