Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Locanda Palazzone distinguishes itself from the more standard agriturismo or bed and breakfast choices by its contemporary interiors wrapped up in a 14th-century building. Once a cardinal’s home and a stopover on a pilgrimage to Rome, the hillside residence takes in wide open views over the valley. The Dubini family, originally from Milan, returned from abroad and settled in on their grandfather’s property, surrounded by the vineyards which produce a pleasant Orvieto Superiore wine. The unusual limestone brick structure resembling a church was completely restored to its original dimensions by having a part of the roof raised. Interiors were carefully studied by a group of architects and were given a clean minimalist décor. Guests walk into an enormous open space, cross-sectioned by large arches with a central staircase and glass elevator. Spacious rooms and suites upstairs have designer bathrooms, hardwood floors and some have loft space for beds. The enoteca below is where breakfast is served or wine-tastings are arranged. Hosts Lodovico and Patrizia reside in the adjacent house and are on hand to assist guests. While dining by candlelight on the front terrace, guests delight at the magical view of illuminated Orvieto and its dominating Cathedral.
