Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Fontanasalsa is a restored farm within a historic baglio farm complex in the countryside outside Trapani, where ferry boats depart for the beautiful Egadi islands. The vast property of the Burgarella family headed by Signora Maria Caterina, a retired pediatrician, is made up mostly of citrus and olive groves (10,000 trees!), the source of their award-winning olive oil. Cordial hospitality is offered within inviting bedrooms in a section of the quad-shaped structure which includes the wine cellars, olive oil press, a small agricultural tool museum, and the lofty beamed dining room with fireplace. Outside the courtyard, beyond a citrus grove, is the swimming pool and outdoor dining area. Individually decorated rooms appointed with family heirloom furniture and olive print curtains and bedspreads contribute to the feeling of being a truly doted upon house guest of Signora, exactly what she had in mind. The farm continues with its daily business. Guests get a first hand look (and taste!) at Sicilian country life. This is also an excellent location for exploring the Mozia salt islands, the majestic temple of Segesta, hilltop medieval Erice, and Trapani.
