Karen's Review Of This Property:
The La Federica estate is part of a nature reserve in the flat countryside on the border of Piedmont and Liguria. The Gambarotta family from Genova came back to live on the ancestral farm dating back some 400 years. In this typical quad structure called a cascina you will find the main home, chapel, farmer’s quarters, stalls and barns. One upper floor wing, dedicated to guests, has rooms that each access a large terrace. Views are out to the courtyard and to the back cultivated fields of wheat, barley, corn, sunflowers, alfalfa, hay and straw. The family also breeds purebred horses which are a natural part of the scenery. Bedrooms are appropriately appointed with country antiques, wrought-iron beds, floral bedspreads and new bathrooms. A country breakfast is served downstairs in the informal dining room where a collection of horse bits hang over the fireplace, as well as equestrian prints. Gracious hostess Carla is a great resource for the area’s attractions, from visits to the Gavi wine region, gastronomic tours, biking, choice of two golf courses, to a stop for shopping at one of the country’s largest outlets. At an hour’s distance is Genova and the Riviera in one direction and Milan and Turin in the other.
