Castello di Proceno Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

The fascinating Castello di Proceno is in the Lazio region bordering Tuscany and Umbria. This unique accommodation combines historical context, authentic ambiance, unspoiled landscapes, regional foods and wines, and congenial hosts. The Cecchini Bisoni family, owners of this 12th-century hilltop fortress for many generations, have done an outstanding job of restoring some of the farmers’ quarters that make up part of the village grouped around the tower. They modernized plumbing, electricity, and heating systems without disturbing the innate quaintness of these stone dwellings. In addition, Signora Cecilia is a passionate decorator and has artistically displayed the family’s antique collections and restored furniture. The restaurant, complete with cantina and fireplace, leads to a labyrinth of tunnels and stairways connecting to four of the apartments, while the remaining four are located in the fortress attached to the ancient pentagonal walls of the tower and castle, in a wooded area leading down to the pool. All apartments have one or two bedrooms and a kitchenette and all feature both a fireplace and garden area or terrace. For shorter stays, the bed and breakfast formula is available within a choice of four suites. Summer concerts accompanied by a buffet dinner in the castle's park are a highlight.

The castle is situated in a little and medieval village where you can easily reach cities like Orvieto, Sovana, Sorano and Pitigliano, but you can also decide to spend your journey simply walking in the country. The castle has an own restaurant where you can have a romantic and superb dinner. Our room was romantic with a chimney. Mrs Cecilia Cecchini and her husband were very kind and gave us lots of information about the surroundings and places worthwhile to visit. Also they gave us the opportunity to visit the Castle and have their guide for explanation about the history of it. Everything was perfect: the room, the hosts, the dinner...! We suggest this place if you want to spend a romantic and relaxing holiday. Silvia and Marco from Milano

We arrived tired and road weary. We were greeted so warmly by Cecelia’s husband and soon after we had unpacked she arrived at our apartment to finish the paperwork. She gave us excellent tips on easy exploration in the area for the next day. We joined them for dinner at the Castillo Restaurant and she gave us a tour of the garden and the restored barn. Our meal was wonderful, and they were so gracious and made us feel so welcome and at home. We loved our apartment with the fireplace, two bedrooms and kitchen (there were 3 of us). The morning breakfast was very good and we had a lovely tour of the area just as Cecelia had suggested. The beds were comfortable and we all slept very well. I would only change one thing - I wish we had stayed longer!

The Castello di Proceno, a 12th century fortress, is the most charming, peaceful and captivating place I ever visited. Situated near Orvieto, Proceno is in the heart of central Italy and connected to the most important cities and historical centres of this part of the country, where the great Etruscan history is present everywhere. The Cecchini Bisoni family has waked up this sleeping beauty. Wonderful furnished rooms, suites and appartments with every comfort receive the visitors who will spend unforgettable days in this impressive castle, where all is history and beauty. The parc with the carefully restored parc restaurant in summer and the charming, elegant Enoteca in winter, provides you the ideal place between carefully selected antique furniture and delicious, traditional homemade dishes. Summer time is also the moment where Ms Cecilia Cecchini organises concerts in the castle garden, followed by a buffet dinner in pure tradition.
