Karen's Review Of This Property:
We have been informed that the Albergo Sansevero Degas has been closed. The Albergo Sansevero Degas belongs to the Sansevero properties, a group of small hotels in Naples that are within prestigious palaces dating to the 1700s. Our favorite, of the three more basic hotels in the affiliation, is the Albergo Sansevero Degas. As the name implies, the palace at one time belonged to the family of the painter Edgar Degas, who also stayed here. The location couldn’t be more ideal; the hotel is located just off of the Piazza Gesù Nuovo, a gem of a small square in the historic heart of Naples. The charm of the Albergo Sansevero Degas is not immediately apparent. You enter through a handsome portal into a dreary courtyard, then up an elevator to the hotel, where you step out into a pleasant reception area. The Sanservero affiliation has done an excellent job in staffing personnel, since every property we visited had exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable hosts at the front desk. The Albergo Sansevero Degas is a simple hotel, but offers great value. The décor is not pretentiously antique, but instead offers fresh and pretty rooms decorated with bamboo furniture. Our favorite, room 305, looks out to the colorful piazza. Note: Not all of the rooms are with a private bathroom and the reservation telephone represents all the hotels in the group, so ask for the Albergo Sanservero Degas by name.
