Karen's Review Of This Property:
There is no doubt that the spectacular Amalfi coast must be seen, but in high season when the traffic is unbearable and Positano’s streets are packed, a welcome retreat is the coast farther south at Castellabate. This is a very quiet and modest resort area where the majority of summer tourists are Italians. The winding road climbs up to the medieval village of Castellabate and La Mola, the summer home of the Favilla family, is right on the road entering town. Rather nondescript from the roadside entrance, the four-story former olive-press building, perched on the cliffside, faces out to the bay. Each room takes in some angle of this amazing panorama, two having balconies and the two-bedroom suite having a terrace. With an occasional antique, the bedrooms and living room with spiral staircase are pleasantly uncluttered so as not to detract from the inspiring sea views. On a clear day the Amalfi coastline and even Capri are visible. Hostess Loredana takes care of guests, preparing cakes and bread for breakfast, which is served on a table made from the old stone press on the main terrace. It is difficult to tear oneself away to try one of the interesting itineraries with an emphasis on either nature or ancient history (temples of Paestum, Certosa, or Padula).
