Karen's Review Of This Property:
Deep in the heart of the Apulia region, in the south part of Italy’s heel, is the Salento area and the inviting and informal Tenuta Le Pezzate, of typical masseria design. At a short distance from the main town of Maglie (where recent archaeological diggings revealed artifacts from the Bronze Age and fossils verifying the presence of primitive man) the farm property of the Parma family includes olive groves and a watermelon plantation. Enter the main doors to the large enclosed courtyard, with a single tree in the center, from which the four guest suites, private home and main dining room are accessed. Formerly these spaces were used as farmer’s quarters, stalls and barn. A simple and appropriately country look decorates rooms with new bathrooms, wrought-iron beds, brick floors and painted wood furnishings. Two have a sitting room area with lofts for the bedroom. Cross the courtyard, past the Indian fig plants, and you find the door exiting the masseria to the ample-size pool surrounded by more of the cactus family plants. Breakfast is served either on the covered patio or in the long domed dining room with one long wood table and fireplace. Your congenial hosts, world travelers themselves, know just what guests require and can suggest a myriad of day trips.
