Knockeven House Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

Set high above the river surrounded by over three acres of grounds this grand 1840s Victorian commands an impressive position in Cobh—but the main point of interest is the fabulous interior as Pam and John spared no expense in revamping their longtime home into luxury guest accommodation. Their easy hospitality, as much as the comfort of their lovely home, is what makes Knockeven House special. Your stay often begins with tea and scones by the drawing room fire. Up the grand curving staircase you find the airy bedrooms—three have six foot beds (can also be twin), and one has a queen. Showers are large, bedrooms are wired for internet access, and TVs are available. Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon is a breakfast specialty. Favorite activities are: visiting the cathedral and Queenstown Story a lively museum illustrating emigration to the US from 1845 to the 1950s; taking the ferry to Kinsale; going to Blarney to kiss the famous stone; and visiting the English market and shops in nearby Cork. John, an avid golfer, is a mine of information on local courses and happy to arranges tee times.

For two nights (June 5 and 6) my husband and I stayed at Knockeven House in Cobh, Ireland. When we left, it felt like we were leaving the home of old friends. Pamela and John's hospitality is so warm and heartfelt. On our arrival at 9:30 pm Pamela greeted us with tea and scones then helped us plan the next two days in the Cork area. The accommodations were wonderful. Our large room had a king size bed overlooking a beautiful garden and the heated bathroom had a gorgeous shower with excellent water pressure and hot water. There were extra blankets and pillows. Our breakfasts of homemade scones, fresh fruit, a selection of cereals, soda bread were supplemented by a selection of hot foods. The setting of the beautifully restored 1800's home is convenient to the center of Cobh and its tourist attractions yet is set in a huge garden setting. The interior design is restful with gorgeous fabrics and colors. The finishing touches in the rooms and common spaces are elegant. We have stayed at B&B's all over the world and this is in our top five.

I recently visited Ireland with my sisters and stayed at Knockeven B&B in Cobh, Cork. This was the best B&B we stayed in during our travels and I thought it only fair to suggest to Pam Mulhaire, owner, that I recommend it. A beautiful period house and rooms, excellent bath facilities, supplies, towels, robes; beautiful dining room and sitting room. Breakfast was excellent in the sophisticated dining room. Pam was a superior hostess in all ways. She served tea and scones when we arrived, coffee late at night. She even ran us to a couple of places in town when we weren't sure where to go. She was friendly, and called ahead to a B&B in another town when we left. Knockeven house is just minutes from the center of Cobh.

We recently stayed at the Knockeven House in Cobh, Ireland, on the recommendation by the Karen Brown Ireland guide. It was a spectacular B&B and we absolutely loved everything about our stay there! The house, built in the 1840s, is a magnificent, old grand house, and is really spectacular. And to make things even more perfect, the hostess is so gracious and friendly: she greeted us on our arrival with homemade scones and tea and coffee.

Pam and John Mulhaire were the best hosts you could ask for. Their house is beautiful, masterfully restored and maintained, with very large rooms and excellent beds. The breakfasts Pam served were fabulous. There were fresh juices, fresh fruit, cheeses, coffee or tea, and cereals; and then came the real breakfast, freshly baked scones, full Irish breakfast or just about anything else you wanted. Pam is an excellent tourist bureau, she gave us helpful hints on everything, including touring and getting around the Cork and southern Ireland area. She provided recommendations on restaurants in Cork, Kinsale and beyond and made reservations for us. This is a place you don’t want to miss. We had two rooms at the Knockeven House for our three night stay.
