Karen's Review Of This Property:

How fortuitous that the storm of Christmas 1998 ripped off SeaMist’s roof and caused such damage that only one room was habitable! This catapulted Sheila and her twin sister, whom she was visiting in California, into deciding to completely renovate this lovely old home with Sheila running it as a bed and breakfast. With her easy, friendly manner (not to mention talent at baking and jam-making), Sheila has proved a natural for the job. Add to this SeaMist’s central location in Clifden and we have a real winner. Bedrooms are on the whole very spacious and accompanied by either a large bathroom or smaller shower room. Red-deal plank floors complement the warm pastel decor. For a sort of sea view, request a room at the top of the house and you’ll catch a glimpse by standing on your tiptoes. Sheila’s granddad was an auctioneer and some of his purchases have stayed at the house. I particularly admired the grand sideboard in the sitting room and the beautiful tall pine dresser purchased from Ballynahinch Castle. Walk out the front door and you are steps away from the main street of town with its shops, restaurants, and pubs. Drive a few yards in the other direction and you are in the lovely Connemara countryside.

What a lovely place - and great breakfast! The jams and bread were the best we had in any of the 6 places we stayed. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. No matter what time we popped in or out during the day (easy when you’re right in town to walk places) Sheila or her husband came out to see if we needed anything. There is a fridge for wine or cheese if you buy it locally and want to store it. The restaurants in town are good. We were lucky enough to attend the Thursday night music and dancing event at the town hall which is less than a block down the street. During the summer, on Tuesday and Thursday, local musicians gather and for a reasonable price, you can listen, join in, dance, etc. It was great fun and Sheila made sure we knew about it so we wouldn’t miss it. We’d stay here again in a heartbeat.
