In French, La Maison aux Volets Bleus means The House of the Blue Shutters—indeed, the bright cobalt shutters of the Marets’ charming home can be seen from far below the hilltop town of Venasque. Follow a winding road up from the plains to this ancient town, which is now a haven for painters and art lovers. An old stone archway leads to the Marets’ romantic walled garden and their picturesque home filled with colorful dried-flower bouquets hanging from every available rafter. The cozy living room opens onto a balcony with a sensational panoramic view. Each bedroom is unique and decorated with Martine Maret’s artistic flair for harmonious colors, Provençal prints, and simple, attractive furnishings. Martine and her husband Jerome are an energetic couple with many talents who enjoy welcoming guests into their home and to their table. Plan to stay for several days to enjoy genuine hospitality and delicious meals.

Directions: From the A7 take the Avignon North exit following signs northeast to Carpentras. From Carpentras take the D4 towards Apt for 8 km and turn to Venasque. Look for the turnoff marked Venasque to the right up a hill. Continue to the fountain square (Place de la Fontaine) and look for a Chambres d’Hôtes sign down the road a little to the left indicating the arched entry to the Marets’ home.
