Karen's Review Of This Property:
Located just up the river from Saumur and its castle, the Château de Beaulieu is impressive and has its own claim to history: Jean Drapeau, architect of Louis XV, was commissioned to build this romantic château in 1727. Guests will enjoy its beautiful setting embraced by a park, gardens, and a wonderful new pool. Inside, the large living room with fireplace, the handsome billiards and breakfast rooms, all have a warm and light ambiance. The bed chambers (accessed by the central main staircase or the creaking backstairs) are all decorated in a style befitting the home’s origins. Choices include the dramatic La Louis XIII Suite with a four-poster bed and an expanse of corner windows; the La Vallière (named for one of Louis XIV’s mistresses) with its pretty rose and cream décor; and the more cozy third floor Cendrillon (Cinderella), intimate with twin beds. The home’s delightful grounds are populated by centuries-old trees, and enhanced by a charming pond and well-kept flowerbeds. Dr. and Mrs. Coady-Maguire love to talk with guests and introduce them to the history-filled Loire region.
