Karen's Review Of This Property:
The medieval town of Rochefort en Terre, with its fortified château, cobbled streets, and antique shops, is enchanting. Nestled on 20 acres of park just minutes away is the gorgeous Château de Talhouet. A beautiful forested drive leads to a handsome entry with an absolutely spectacular salon beyond. This striking, wood-paneled room was the place where the judge once held court—the spot where he sat and passed judgment is now enclosed by glass and the fireplace is now a deep, arched doorway into a beautiful dining room where tables are set intimately for two. Beyond the billiard room is a beautiful guest living room with gorgeous fabrics draping the full-length windows and lovely hand-painted beams. Most guestrooms are found up a stone stairway with a dramatic 16th-century wood gate. Chambre d’Honneur is a twin-bedded room with a large armoire and a view of the stunning grounds. Louis XV is a smaller room with a draped canopy over a queen bed and a table set at the window. Louis XIII has twin beds and a table with high-backed chairs at the fireplace. The Montgolfière has gold stripes with dark furnishings. The Directoire, a twin under lowered ceilings, is not in keeping with the ambiance of the château, while Les Oiseux is pretty with recent redecoration. Up a back staircase are a few more simple rooms.
