Karen's Review Of This Property:

The 13th-century Château de Villiers-le-Mahieu fulfills any childhood fantasy to live in a fairy-tale castle. The beautifully maintained castle sits in parklike grounds, manicured to perfection, on its own little island surrounded by a moat. The main access is over a narrow bridge leading into the inner courtyard-garden, framed on three sides by the ivy-covered stone walls of the château. The Château de Villiers-le-Mahieu is not an intimate bed and breakfast, but rather a commercial operation with 26 guestrooms in the château and 11 in the garden annex. Splurge and request room 1, a grand room in the original castle, wallpapered in a handsome blue print fabric, which repeats in the drapes at the three tall French windows looking out to the gardens. In the park surrounding the castle there are tennis courts and a superb swimming pool. You will also enjoy and delight in the comfort of 43 recently added guestrooms. Attractive in their Oriental furnishings, they enjoy the benefit of modern facilities such as Internet connections, air conditioning, and luxurious bathrooms. They also have a spa, described as “a haven of peace, harmony and relaxation”.

Directions: Located 40 km west of Paris. Take the A13 west from Paris; exit south on A12 toward Dreux-Bois d’Arcy. Follow signs to Dreux until Pontchartrain; then take D11 signposted to Thoiry. As the road leaves Thoiry, turn left on D45 toward Villiers le Mahieu; continue through town—the château is on the left.
