La Magioca
La Magioca is a wonderful discovery in the wine country of Valpolicella, close to Lake Garda and historic Verona. The elegant 17th-century country home of the Merighi family was transformed into a luxurious bed and breakfast under the direction of the family’s son, Matteo, who runs the operation with flair and efficiency. No detail has been overlooked in this ivy-covered home where many decorating ideas were inspired by innumerable trips to the French countryside. A golden-yellow hue prevails, giving common areas luminosity and warmth. A large living room with enormous arched windows gives access to the surrounding garden and extended lawns, which lead to a private 13th-century chapel and a hidden hydro-jet pool for six people. Three double bedrooms, and three junior suites, all very individually appointed with fine antiques and each more delightful than the other, are divided among the top floors. Rich fabrics, carpets, and paintings harmonize perfectly with wood-beamed mansard ceilings and parquet floors. Matteo’s mother, Signora Marisa oversees the buffet breakfast. A pool is now nestled in the olive garden. Romantic, peaceful and a great splurge.
