Baita Fraina
A Karen Brown Recommended B & B

Karen's Review Of This Property:
Cortina has enjoyed a long-standing reputation as one of the most “in” resorts of the Dolomites, helped also by its center-stage location. Prominent politicians, stars of television and cinema, socialites and nobility have vacation homes here and congregate three times a year at Christmas, Easter, and during the month of August. In town, there is a large range of accommodation available, but if you want to be part of the scene yet desire a quiet place to sleep, the Menardi family’s Baita Fraina is the perfect choice. A baita is a typical chalet farmhouse where home and barn are incorporated into one building. Overlooking mountains to the back and a large park for children to the front, the Fraina is primarily a well-established and esteemed restaurant cited in top restaurant guides and specializing in pastas with fresh mushrooms as well as the exquisite local fartaies dessert with wild-berry sauce. Three paneled and intimate dining rooms have ceramic-tiled stove heaters, lace curtains, antique kitchen tools, and dried flower arrangements. Adolfo will show you his cellar which stocks over 500 Italian wines. The six simply decorated bedrooms done in pinewood were added later on the top two floors. A sauna, Jacuzzi, and sun terrace are extra features of this characteristic bed and breakfast.
