La Crocetta
In the southeastern corner of Tuscany is a delightful, yet undiscovered pocket of absolutely stunning countryside. It was only natural that Andrea, with his expert culinary skills, and his lovely wife, Cristina, a born hostess, should open a bed and breakfast close to their vast 1,000-acre countryside property producing olive oil, wine, cereals and vegetables. La Crocetta sits at the crossroads leading up to the charming town of San Casciano, offering eight guestrooms. The small guestrooms with varying color schemes, each with a new bathroom, are pleasantly appointed with canopy beds and fresh country fabrics used for bedspreads and curtains. A pool has been added in the front garden. Inquire about the possibility of cooking and flower arranging courses. San Casciano dei Bagni is the home of several ancient thermal hot springs and is a real plus for those wanted to take a day off from touring to enjoy a swim in one of the thermal pools or take advantage of the many specialized treatments at the nearby luxury spa (Hotel Fonteverde mentioned in our hotel guide). Horseback riding or hiking through the Nature Park of Mount Rufeno are additional activities for lovers of the outdoors. Historic cities of Orvieto, Siena, and the hilltowns of Montepulciano, Pienza and Montalcino are all at easy touring distance.
