Le Boscarecce

Castelfiorentino is 40 kilometers from Florence, Siena and Pisa, and although its outskirts are very commercial, it is a strategic touring base and the surrounding countryside is lovely. Continuing a long tradition of making guests feel at home—their hotel in Florence has been in the family for four generations—Massimo and Susanna opened this bed and breakfast ten years ago after major restoration of two hilltop farmhouses. The completely refurbished rooms, with many modern amenities, new bathrooms, fresh landscaping, and recently installed swimming pool and tennis court, have a very new feeling. Spacious bedrooms are appointed with authentic and reproduction antiques and have colorful Sicilian ceramic tiles above beds, with matching ones in bathrooms. The former barn was converted into a small restaurant decorated with contemporary art, a kitchen with viewing window, and a common living room/library upstairs. The preparation of delectable Tuscan fare using ancestral recipes is another strong tradition and cooking lessons are happily arranged. A buffet breakfast is served. The side terrace, overlooking soft hills, is where guests can both enjoy breakfast and watch the sunset in the evening. Olive oil and wine tasting can be arranged.

In early July we spent 3 nights at Sussana Ravalli's Le Boscarecce (Castelfiorentino) What a wonderful place, and a wonderful hostess. The air conditioned bed room and modern bathroom were very comfortable. The pool surrounded by a large grassy garden with fruit trees and flowers was perfect for relaxing. The restaurant overlooks the Tuscan hills, and sunset dinners by candle light and beautiful table settings made a perfect setting for the incredible dishes that can hardly be equaled anywhere. By the way, Susanna loves poetry, so the menues have bits of poems in both English and Italian The Restaurant is run by Susanna's daughter Swan, and Swan's husband is the master chef. Susanna and Swan were so helpful with ideas for daily excursions along with exact directions. We recommend Le Boscarecce, a magical place, absolutely !!!

We stayed for three nights at Le Boscarecce. We were warmly welcomed by Swan and Susanna on our arrival. The rooms were beautifully appointed and completely updated while retaining the charm of the setting in the Tuscan hills. We later found out that all of the ceramics (tiles, lamps, etc.) were designs by Susanna. Since we arrived late the first day, we were dissappointed to hear the dinner was on served on Sundays, but Swan offered to prepared a cold dinner for us. It was a wonderful combination of panzanella, caprese and meats and cheeses, beautifully presented in their restaurant. We had dinner the following two nights also,and they were fabulous. Breakfasts were beautifully presented with a wonderful selection, and Susanna would come by to find out where we were going,and provide directions,maps and the best places to park in each town. Le Boscarecce’s location is great for touring Tuscany, being centrally located between Florence, Pisa, Lucca and Siena. We highly recommend it for anyone traveling there.
