Traveler Recommendation of:
Podere Salicotto

Podere Salicotto was perfect in every way. It is situated on a hilltop just outside of a charming little Tuscan village. The rooms were great - well decorated, bright, clean, and spacious enough for two people. The brunches each morning are absolutely amazing. The food was local and fresh, and the capuccinos were delicious! The view from Podere Salicotto is just breathtaking. The property also features a nice community kitchen, fantastic common areas, and a wine cellar where you can take wine on the honor system. While we were there we met up with some other travelers and had a wonderful time each evening raiding the wine cellar and catching up on everyone's travels. Overall the property is just gorgeous and the amenities are fantastic. Perhaps the best part of the whole trip was the travel advice and help provided by Silvia. She helped us determine which towns to visit in Tuscany, where best to eat, and when to go. She also helped us track down our luggage that was lost for 5 days! We never could have done it without her. We would not even consider staying anywhere else on our return visits.

My husband, myself and 3 other couples arrived together at the Podere Salicotto for a one week dream Italian vacation. From the warm and friendly reception by owners, Paolo and Silvia to the fantastic views of the striking Tuscan scenery, we were thoroughly enchanted. The property is very private and peaceful, but close to the town of Buonconvento. Podere Salicotto also is close to many beautiful towns in the surrounding countryside. The rooms are very clean and charmingly decorated. We were able to enjoy fresh food items from their garden served on their lovely terrace overlooking the Tuscan hills. As a group we were able to enjoy a cooking class which was organized by Silvia. A great learning experience. Paolo took 4 of us out on a one day chartered sailing trip. We sailed and swam in the gorgeous waters off of the Island of Elba. It was a memorable highlight. My husband and I have stayed in many Karen Brown recommended accommodations throughout Europe and Britain. This is one of the best!

Podere Salicotto enjoys spectacular unobstructed views of the Tuscan countryside, including Montalcino, home of famed Brunello wine, and, on a clear day, Siena. The inviting rooms have been decorated with care and efficiency in mind. Beds are comfortably firm (for my taste) and the showers have ample pressure. The Podere is beautifully managed by Silvia and her husband Paolo, former Milanesi who have realized their dream of restoring and owning a property here in the Crete Senesi. Silvia is a font of knowledge on things to do and where to dine in the surrounding area. She even recommended a great hairdresser to me in the nearby town of Buonconvento! Morning brunch is usually a cheery group affair, with sunny dining available outside under the pergola, weather permitting. For those with a sweet tooth Neda makes the most delicious fresh cakes to complement local cheeses, salumi, jams, honey, yoghurt, bread, cereal, fruit, in short a veritable feast of dining. I confess to being addicted to Podere Salicotto, its splendid, peaceful location and charming, ever-so-helpful owners, having stayed on four separate occasions over the past two years. Bravi, Silvia and Paolo!
