Casa Sola is just that—an ancient villa standing alone atop a hill on a gorgeous 400-acre vineyard estate in the heart of Chianti. The gracious Gambaro family produces prestigious Chianti Classico Riserva, Supertuscan-Montarsiccio, and extra-virgin olive oil of the highest quality. There are six large guest apartments on two floors of a rose-covered stone farmhouse down the road from the main villa. All the apartments consist of living room, kitchen, bedrooms, and baths, with private entrances and garden (flowers match the color scheme of each apartment!). The apartments are furnished stylishly with selected country antiques, and details such as botanical prints hung with bows, eyelet curtains, fresh flowers, and a bottle of wine are welcome touches. Number 5, for up to eight people, is the most spacious with four bedrooms, fireplace, and magnificent views over the Barberino Valley and cypress woods. Il Capanno, in the converted barn, is a delightful “nest” for honeymooners. An inviting pool overlooks the valley surrounding the main villa. Wine-cellar visits with wine tasting are organized once a week and marked hiking trails lead guests through picture-perfect landscapes.
