Accolades for this discovery came from a couple who has used our recommendations and “found them always exactly as represented—and in many cases even better than described.” Well, Mr and Mrs Doty, thank you for directing us to La Ferme—it is even better than you described! Located just south of Tournus, in a farm village just up from the River Saône, this wonderful complex is guarded by heavy doors. Framing the courtyard, the whitewashed walls of the main farmhouse are a showcase for protruding beams and exposed stone, while beautiful red tiles, weathered by the sun, add a splash of color. The five guestrooms, found up two mirroring stairways, are tucked under the steep pitch of the old roof. Low doorways, enormous beams, and exposed, thick nails are evidence of the age of this charming old complex. The spotlessly modern bathrooms, excellent plumbing and lighting, and comfortable beds topped with cozy down comforters are testament to the work and attention to detail that the Stahel-Zerlauths have lavished on their property. Their professional level of service is reflective of the finest Swiss hotels in which they both made a career for more than three decades. An accomplished chef, Ruedi prepares evening meals incorporating the farm’s own produce.
