Karen's Review Of This Property:
La Chouette qui Chante

This lovely old merchant’s house in a quiet and peaceful French village has been lovingly restored by Annemarie and John Williams. Since every home on the street sports the name “Les Bordes,” name of the residential hamlet, look for the name La Chouette qui Chante or you might find yourself knocking on a private home. A handsome Yorkshire clock dominates the tiled entry and fresh flowers are found throughout the house. The family kitchen is just off the wide front hallway opposite the wide oak staircase that climbs to the three spacious guestrooms. Overlooking the front is the Armancon room with a king bed in a very modern décor of ivory and black with red accents. The back bedroom, Serein, is traditionally decorated in cream and blue with antique furniture; has large windows framing views of the back garden, the village church and surrounding hillsides. The Conway room with a white marble fireplace, also overlooks the front. Downstairs, the public rooms are the lovely large dining room and living room with sofas and fireplace. Across the street, the Williams have renovated a lovely old barn to serve as two one-bedroom apartments with garden for weekly rentals.

We again extensively used your guide as we travelled through France for a month. Chouette Qui Chante in La Motte Ternant was lovely. The owners (Williams) were wonderful, delivered fresh croissants every morning, unit was neat and clean in the "gite" in the barn, just wonderful. They invited us in for a drink but we could not make it that night so they instead delivered some little treat. A nice touch -- we are pretty independent in our travels and don't really need such wonderful attention - but nonetheless, very nice. Highly recommended as well.

We used this lovely home to explore Burgundy for a week. The house is beautifully decorated and the gardens are lovely. The view from the 2 large windows in the back bedroom was wonderful. The room was huge and our bath was lovely. The exquisite linens on the bed are luxurious and the bed is very comfortable. The house is elegant and comfortable, the setting is a perfect country retreat. Breakfasts were delicious with wonderful coffee and orange juice, fresh fruit, great croissants, crusty bread and beautiful jams. (Cereal and yogurt if you want.) We had a delicious dinner our 1st night with good food and conversation. Ann-Marie and John are great hosts, we felt like their home was our home. We could see the medieval village of Mont-Saint-Jean from our window and it is worth the drive. The castle is in private hands but the view from the terrace is wonderful. Driving back from Dijon and Beaune was more of a trek than we had realized, the country roads are tricky in the dark. So we often had grand lunches and smaller dinners, including a picnic in the dining room on our last night. A delightful home with charming hosts, a reasonable price and beautiful setting. Highly recommended.
