Vadstena Castle was started in 1545 by Gustavus Vasa, king of Sweden, but not completed until 1620. The Castle is located a short stroll along a parklike promenade frim the Vadstena Abbey. The Castle ia an impressive 16th-century fortress surrounded by a moat crossed over by a drawbridge. Most of the castle is closed but one wing houses a small art museum displaying furniture and artwork from the 16th and 17th centuries.
