Bujaco Tower is also know by the name of Torre Nueva ( New Tower ). This tower was built in the 12th century (on top of some Roman stones) and its style is Arabian. The tower is square and it's 25m high. It is called Bujaco because of the califa Abú-Ya'qub that conquered the city in 1173, after 6 months of siege. It was formerly called Torre del Reloj ( Watch Tower ) since there was a watch in it (between the 16th and 18th centuries), later moved to Iglesia de San Mateo. This watch was the guideline to merchants and to those who lived in this square (Plaza Mayor, Mayor Square ).
