In clear weather a ferry from Dunquin takes day-trip visitors to and from Great Blasket Island. The little village on the island is mostly in ruins, and paths wander amongst the fields where the hardy islanders struggled to earn a living—a café offers the only shelter. (Ferry sails every hour 10 am–6 pm in summer, tel: 066 9156444.)
