Alongside Berlin, Potsdam was the second residence of the Prussian kings, who enhanced the natural landscape rich in forest and lakes with impressive palaces and parks, creating a unique cultural landscape that still fascinates today. The character of Potsdam is represented in particular by three historic parks and their castles: the world-famous Sanssouci Park and Palace, the New Gardens with the Marble Palace and Cecilienhof Palace, as well as Babelsberg Palace and Park. Outstanding architects and landscape designers such as Peter Joseph Lenné, Fürst von Pückler-Muskau, Karl Friedrich Schinkel and Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff transformed Potsdam into a unique work of art.
