The Champagne village of Dormans saw fierce fighting in World War I and was badly damaged. Set in a large green park, the Chapelle de la Reconnaissance (Chapel of Gratitude) commemorates those killed in the battles of the Marne in 1914 and 1918 and offers splendid views over the valley.
