Skye Museum of Island Life

A short drive from Duntulm Castle brings you to the Skye Museum of Island Life where four traditional Highland crofts have been restored and appropriately furnished to show a family home, a smithy, a weaver’s house, and a small museum. These little cottages with their thick stone walls topped by a thick straw thatch were the traditional island dwellings—very few good examples remain though, as you travel around the island, if you look very carefully, you can see several traditional cottages in various states of ruin. Flora Macdonald is buried in a nearby graveyard.
