Look carefully for Alnwick Castle, because, although it is close to the town centre, the castle is hidden from view and can only be viewed clearly during a northern approach, where it looks over the River Aln. Often referred to as the ‘Windsor of the north,” Alnwick Castle is still home to the Duke of Northumberland, and is richly appointed with magnificent staterooms that the visitor can enjoy. One tip that’s sure to bring out the kid in you—Alnwick Castle was used as the setting of Harry Potter’s Hogwart’s school.
