Just outside the town of Kvanerndr Up towers one of Denmark's most regal castles, Egeskov. Built on wooden pilings in 1554 in the middle of a small lake, the castle is privately owned and at present only occasionally opened to the public although there are plans to have it open on a full-time basis. Visitors come to see the parklike grounds, the gardens and the transport museum filled with carriages, old cars and motorcycles.
