Chateau Montelena
A Karen Brown Recommendation

| Recenter Map To This Location |
Just beyond the geyser is the very interesting Château Montelena winery (1429 Tubbs Lane, Calistoga, CA 94515), founded in 1882 by Alfred Tubbs who brought over a French architect to build an “authentic” French château (you’ll see that the architect took a little artistic license with this instruction). Tours last an hour and a half, check their website for seasonal tour times—you watch a film, visit the cellar in the château, tour the gardens and vineyards, and conclude with a tasting. If you are not able to secure a tour, you can still enjoy a tasting ($10), see the exterior of the château and wander round the lake, resplendent with swans and a bridge leading to a tea house on an island. 707-942-5105, www.montelena.com.
