Elfreth’s Alley: Take the time to walk down this street, between North 2nd and Front Streets, lined with 33 narrow brick houses dating back to 1725. The alley is considered this country's oldest residential street dating back before the revolution. The preservation of the alley dates back to 1934 when the buildings were in danger of abandonment and neglect. Now, the preservation society must worry about the buildings being "loved to death" as it is one of the more popular historic sites in Philadelphia with over a quarter of a million visitors annually.
