The vast chalk promontory of Beachy Head, rises above the town of Eastbourne. It is a glorious, windswept place of soaring seagulls and springy turf, which ends abruptly as the earth drops away to giant chalk cliffs plummeting into the foaming sea. This is the starting point for the South Downs Way, a popular walking path.
