The crumbling ruins of Bolton Castle, which stands grim and square, dwarfing the adjacent village, overlooking distant Wensleydale. You can tour several restored rooms. The castle’s most famous visitor was Mary, Queen of Scots, who was held prisoner here for six months in 1568.
