Definitely make time to include Gripsholms Castle in your sightseeing since it is just super.  The setting is wonderful, with the massive 16th-century castle completely dominating a tiny island connected to the large mainland by a drawbridge.  Crossing the drawbridge, you enter into a large central courtyard before walking up some steps into the castle which boasts the world’s largest collection of portraits.
