In Épernay there are many champagne cellars to visit. Several invite you to come by without appointment. While the basic procedures and methods used to produce champagne are similar, the grand names for champagne all have their own history and interesting stories to tell. Tours are available in English and take about an hour. Except in July and August the houses are usually closed between 11:30 am and 2 pm. At Piper-Hiedsieck, 51 Blvd. Henry Vasnier, visitors tour the galleries in six-passenger cars that take you on a Disney-like tour of the cellars with giant dioramas of grapes and interesting explanations on the production of champagne from harvest to disgorging.
