Karen's Review Of This Property:

An escape to Hillbrook is like a trip to the heart of the English countryside. This charming old timbered home, a jumble of angled roofline, chimney stacks, small-paned glass, and dormer windows, steps down the hillside surrounded by lush lawn shaded by trees. Families of ducks and geese grace the ponds, walking bridges span the gurgling stream, a swing hangs in the breeze, and human-size chessmen are set on a chess board sculpted in the lawn. In addition to accommodation, Hillbrook is popular for its delicious meals, which include a three-course lunch and a gourmet seven-course dinner, and its cozy tavern. Inside the long, narrow inn, rooms take advantage of every nook and cranny. The ambiance is intimate and cozy with the patina of old woods, creaking floors, soft lighting, paintings, Oriental carpets, shelves of books, crackling fires, and small tables set with candles. In the main house five guestrooms range from the enchanting Lookout, tucked under the eaves, to the most dramatic and spacious, The Bamford Suite, which enjoys a sitting area and bedchamber in front of an open fire and a private porch. The four suites in the garden cottage have luxurious bathrooms and handsome furnishings set on gorgeous terracotta tile floors.
