Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Shelburne Inn is a step back to the late 19th century, at once stately, traditionally elegant and country casual. We felt as if we were aboard an ancient ship, walking the narrow carpeted hallways with their low ceilings and walls of tongue and groove. Some bedrooms tend to be small; but are cozy and handsome, and each one is thoughtfully and uniquely decorated with antique furniture. Sometimes the wainscoting is painted in a soft shade; sometimes it's left in its natural state to complement a floral wallpaper. Most have claw-foot tubs with sunflower showerheads. In the lobby downstairs, a fire glows warmly. Dine at the Shelburne Restaurant dominated by stunning 19th-century Art Nouveau stained glass salvaged from a church in England. Complimentary with your room is a gourmet breakfast. Choose from several hot items on David's menu, and chances are he has smoked the salmon in your egg scramble or personally hunted outdoors for the mushrooms in your omelet. Laurie bakes the delicious pastries. The dinner menu bases its cuisine on an abundance of fresh, locally harvested foods and includes lots of Pacific Northwest wines and beers on its beverage list. Two more gently gracious hosts than Laurie and David cannot be found.
