Karen's Review Of This Property:
If not for the charming sign hung under a street lantern, it would be easy to pass right by the intimate Fife & Drum Inn whose single paned glass doorway is its only street front presence. Once past the door a wood stairway handsomely painted and stenciled beckons one up to the second floor landing where one is introduced to the whimsical staging of this lovely inn. Along the wide hallway that transitions from brick to painted plank floors, guestroom doors mimic residential entrances and cleverly effect the illusion of walking down one of Williamsburg’s charming alleyways. Just around the corner to the right, the hallway opens on a large room set with wooden tables and chairs that serves as the only public room for guests. Mornings a limited breakfast buffet is set out here from 8 to 9am and at other times one will find beverages and cookies. Guestrooms are decorated with pine reproduction furniture set on stenciled plank floors. Bathrooms are tiled and vary based on the space afforded to accommodate their utilities. Furnished with a chest of drawers, bed and single chair, the rooms are not meant for lingering and with a location right in the heart of old Williamsburg, linger you will not as shops, restaurants, the historic village and the college of William and Mary are all steps away.
