Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Lilac Inn is nestled in the Champlain Valley, surrounded by the Green Mountains and the Adirondacks, on the prettiest street in the region, in the small historic town of Brandon, chartered in 1746. Built in 1909 as a summer cottage for Albert Farr; the Greek Revival style home, with five-arched façade, rivaled the finest homes in Brandon. The inn’s nine guestrooms have been discreetly modernized so as not to distract from the historic character of the home. Each room is unique and filled with treasures from over thirty years of collecting. There are two dining rooms, the casual tavern and the more formal West Garden Room, whose menu focuses on creative use of Vermont produce and has won numerous awards for the inn. Built around a cobblestone courtyard, embraced by two acres of landscaped grounds with cascading ponds and Vermont stonewalls, the inn’s lovely setting and excellent reception facilities make it a popular choice for weddings. Brandon is situated near the major ski mountains and near Lakes Champlain and Dunmore, with rivers and streams creating great opportunities for fishing, swimming, and boating. Other attractions nearby include golfing and all the activities of the college town of Middlebury. Shelburne Museum is within an easy day’s visit.
