Karen's Review Of This Property:
It would be hard to imagine a more spectacular setting than that of the Inn at Shelburne Farms, which sits in a 1,400-acre estate overlooking Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains. The grounds are a creation of Frederick Law Olmsted, the architect who designed New York’s Central Park. The estate is owned by a nonprofit organization devoted to preserving, maintaining and adapting its historic buildings and landscape for teaching and demonstrating the stewardship of natural and agricultural resources. The dramatic, 60-room Queen Anne mansion has 24 guestrooms, 17 with private bathrooms, which are individual in their decor and vary dramatically in price. The most popular rooms are on the second floor, facing the lake and decorated with fine antiques. Of those, the W. Seward Webb bedroom has William Morris wallpaper and a massive double bed, while the handsome Empire Room has furnishings, drapes, and wall coverings of the Empire period. Tucked under the eaves of the third floor overlooking the garden are the least expensive rooms. Apart from touring Shelburne Farms itself, also plan to visit the Shelburne Museum with its 37 historic buildings housing exhibits from 300 years of life in America.
