Karen's Review Of This Property:
Home to Brown University, Providence is a charming city and it is quickly becoming one of Rhode Island’s treasures. Three rivers weave a course through the heart of town and segment the key districts: the lovely residential and university quarter, the business, convention center and mall, and the seat of government. Tucked just on the other side of the I-95 from the State House, the Christopher Dodge House is a convenient base from which to explore Providence and rooms are competitively priced. One of three neighboring buildings converted to offer travelers lodging referred to as the State House Inns, this is most definitely our favorite of the group, as the architecture of this three story, brick, 1858 Italianate manor affords lofty, eleven foot ceilings and spacious accommodation. A lovely banistered main stairway (as well as back stair) winds up to the guestrooms which are attractively decorated with early American reproductions. Each guestroom enjoys a private, marble tiled bathroom, many boast a gas fireplace or stove and room furnishings include a comfortable reading chair, desk and comfortable bed. With exposed brick walls and tall windows that frame the backyard greenery, the dining room is a restful spot to enjoy the breakfast buffet.
